At UV Vinyl, we recently completed an external solar control film installation on a lantern-style roof that delivered impressive results – both in terms of performance and longevity.

Project Overview

Our client was experiencing excessive heat buildup and glare through their lantern roof, especially during peak sunlight hours. To resolve this, we supplied and installed a high-performance external solar control window film, specifically designed to cut down solar gain and glare without compromising natural light.

Performance Benefits

By applying this specialist film, we were able to achieve:

  • 82% reduction in solar heat gain – making the interior significantly cooler and more comfortable during hot days.
  • 84% reduction in glare – reducing eye strain and improving the usability of the space beneath the lantern.
  • Up to 7 years manufacturer-backed warranty – ensuring lasting protection and peace of mind for the client.

Sealed for Durability

To further enhance the longevity of the installation, we applied a 3M edge sealer around the entire perimeter of the film – including all top, bottom, side, and edge seams. This creates a sealed barrier to:

  • Help prevent moisture or debris from getting underneath the film over time
  • Reduce risk of peeling or edge-lifting
  • Maximise the film’s performance and appearance throughout its lifespan

Why External Film?

External window films are ideal for lanterns and skylights, as they are directly exposed to sunlight and are less affected by internal obstructions like blinds or curtains. By tackling the solar energy before it enters the glass, these films can deliver exceptional thermal and glare control, even in challenging installations.
